Mahler Symphony No. 2 (Resurrection)

MahlerA work of youthful inspiration, Mahler’s Second Symphony ‘Resurrection’ never fails to stir even the sternest of concertgoers. Capturing the imagination of the public for the better part of a century, the Resurrection Symphony exhibits all of Mahler’s unmistakeable voice: his vibrant orchestration; his attention to detail; his marshalling of massive musical forces; and – perhaps first and foremost - his probing explorations of the very human conditions of life, death and whatever comes after. The journey from the darkness of death to the ultimate redemption is as compelling a journey as any and one that the Sheffield Symphony takes great pride in presenting to end its season. To join us we welcome talented young singers Elizabeth Karani and Alice Nelson plus Sheffield’s own Sterndale Singers and the Sheffield Chamber Choir.
