| Wagner | Overture 'Die Meistersinger' |
| Arnold | English Dances sets 1 and 2 |
| Rachmaninov | Symphony no. 2 |
Three popular works to end our season. Wagner’s Overture belongs to probably the longest opera in the regular repertory; its majesty and good humour make it a perennial favourite of audiences and orchestras alike. Malcolm Arnold’s English Dances reflect the composer’s innate exuberance and high spirits. No excuse is needed for offering another opportunity to hear Rachmaninov’s much-loved second symphony; a glorious mixture of great tunes and colourful orchestration designed to please; a more fitting end to a varied season’s music-making would be hard to imagine.
