As is customary, our final concert of the season is less of a themed programme; more a selection of great works with a reasonably popular appeal. Prokofiev’s ‘Classical’ symphony is his affectionate tribute to Haydn; equally as inventive as the older master and certainly more challenging! Tchaikovsky’s 1st piano concerto is so familiar that it hardly requires any introduction here, and our season concludes with Sibelius’ fifth symphony; romantic, evocative and ultimately triumphant.
